This past Wednesday, September 2nd, SumZero hosted 175 fellow buyside members and institutional allocators in downtown Manhattan to honor and recognize the work of the fund industry’s, and specifically SumZero's, best-performing analysts and portfolio managers. It was the 1st Annual SumZero Awards event. Members of the community flew in from Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, California, Texas, and other faraway destinations to take part.

Attendees at the 1st SumZero Awards included:
Top-Performing SumZero Analysts
Institutional Asset Allocators
Senior SumZero Fund Managers

Please join us in honoring the following top SumZero analysts, and the various winners of the 2014/2015 FactSet Top Idea Tournament research competition. During the event, SumZero completed the delivery of $160K worth of cash awards to eligible analysts who competed for merit-based awards across four thematic contests held on SumZero between June 2014 and May 2015. Along with FactSet, SumZero is committed supporting the individuals/funds responsible for top-tier idea generation and fundamental analysis.

The big winner at the 1st SumZero Annual Awards was Steven Wood, CFA (GreenWood Investors) who seized three separate awards stemming from his December 2014 pitch on Italian defense company Finmeccanica SpA (FNC:IM), which was submitted into the FactSet Special Situations contest. His pitch, which has since returned nearly 60% and was the best performing idea in the contest to the May 31st, 2015 performance window, dominated the Judges vote, and placed Mr. Wood into the pole position for this year's Grand Prize award. The Finmeccanica thesis has been selected as the best idea across all four FactSet contests, a pool which consists of over 300 eligible submissions. He takes home $56K in cash for winning three different awards, as well as a full year license to the FactSet Workstation.

Other big winners include Ian Clark (Dichotomy Capital) who took the Top Idea Tournament Grand Prize Runner-Up spot. His short call on Paragon Offshore Plc (PGN:US), submitted into the FactSet Short-Only Contest, earned a Runner-Up designation by the Judges Panel, and has posted a 89% return since his initial recommendation in September 2014. The combination of the strong early placement by the Judges Panel, as well the excellent subsequent return secured Mr. Clark the overall Grand Prize Runner-Up spot. He received an additional $10K cash prize for the achievement, as well as a full-year license to the FactSet Workstation.

Singapore-based Sid Choraria (APS Asset Management) took home 2 awards for his work across multiple SumZero research contests, including a first-place finish in the FactSet Short Contest. Most notably, Mr. Choraria seized the 1st SumZero Analyst Excellence Award for his ability to consistently publish top-quality research. Going back to 2011, Mr. Choraria has been a multiple, top-tier finisher in SumZero research competitions. His recent and past work made him a lock for this year's Analyst Excellence award designed to acknowledge consistent analytical achievement.

Please join us in congratulating this year's 12 award winners across all contests and more:
